Understanding the Functionality of the PSN/XBOX Resolver
Th resolver is not a packet capture software it does not pull ips in real time nor does it decrypt usernames.
What is The Resolver?
The Resolver is a large searchable database containing over 20 million unique IPs and Gamertags. How it works:
- It maps an IP address to the most recent decrypted Gamertag associated with it.
- It maps a Gamertag to the most recent IP address it was seen on.
Why am I getting “No results found”?
If you search a Gamertag and see a message like:
- No results found.
- No users was found in our database.
- Gamertag not found.
This simply means that Gamertag has not been decrypted yet by any OctoSniff user. Gamertags are automatically added to the database when they appear in a network session captured by OctoSniff and get decrypted. If it’s not in the database, it hasn’t been seen or decrypted by our community yet.
Why isn’t every player in the database?
We currently have 80,000+ active clients, but there are over 90 million PSN users and over 90 million Xbox Live users. Because of this, not every Gamertag will be in the resolver. To pull IP addresses in real time or help grow the database by adding new Gamertags, you need to:
Own or purchase OctoSniff software, and Have one of the decryption addons.
